Taskinator is published by Capys Corporation (Pty) Ltd ("Capys", "we", "us"), enterprise number 2025/633670/07, 28 Mirabel Street, Highveld, Centurion, 0157, Gauteng, Republic of South Africa.
Short version: Taskinator keeps everything on your phone. We run no servers for it, we cannot see your tasks, and we collect no personal information.
1. What Taskinator stores (on your device only)
- Your tasks, notes, categories, checklists, reminders and their history, in a local database.
- Your settings (theme, language, default reminder, voice and background options).
- What Autopilot has learned about your routine (section 4), in a small encrypted file.
- Backups you choose to export, as files you save or share yourself.
None of this is sent to Capys or to any server of ours. We have no account system, no cloud sync, no analytics, no advertising, no crash-reporting service and no tracking of any kind.
2. Microphone and voice ("Tasky", optional; hands-free is a Pro feature)
- Mic button: the microphone is used only while you are speaking to Tasky after you tap the mic button.
- Hands-free (off by default): if you switch it on, the microphone stays open only while Taskinator is on your screen, listening for the word "Tasky". Anything that does not begin with "Tasky" is discarded immediately: it is never saved, logged or shown. The screen stays on while it listens. Switch it off with one tap; it also stops when you leave the app.
- Speech is turned into text by your phone's own speech-recognition service (for example Google's on most Android phones, which may send audio to that provider over the internet unless your phone recognises speech on the device). That processing is governed by that provider's privacy policy, not ours. Taskinator itself never stores audio or transcripts, and its diagnostic log records timings only, never the words spoken.
- You see an explanation before the first use of the mic button and again before the first use of Hands-free. You can refuse or withdraw microphone permission at any time in your phone's settings; voice then simply stays unavailable.
- Spoken replies use your phone's text-to-speech engine.
3. Notifications
Reminders and optional "smart nudges" are scheduled on your device and generated from your own task history on the device. Nothing is sent anywhere.
4. Autopilot (optional Pro feature, off by default)
Autopilot studies your own task history, on your device, to notice routines (for example "Gym on Mondays at 17:30") and to add tasks it is confident about for the next few days. Tasks it adds are marked and can be undone. What it remembers (which suggestions you kept, completed, muted or deleted) is a few kilobytes, stored on your device and encrypted (AES-256 with an integrity check; the key is held in the phone's secure keystore). "Reset memory" in the Analytics tab erases it together with its key. Nothing about your routine leaves your phone.
5. Purchases
The optional Pro upgrade is a one-time purchase handled entirely by Google Play (Android) or the Apple App Store (iPhone). We receive no card or payment details. Taskinator asks the store only whether the purchase exists. No purchase information is linked to your tasks.
6. Permissions Taskinator asks for
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Microphone | Voice commands (only after you use the mic button or switch on Hands-free). |
| Notifications | Task reminders and nudges. |
| Exact alarms (Android) | So reminders arrive on time. |
| Vibrate | A small tap when you complete a task or Tasky is ready. |
| Internet / network state | Not used by Taskinator itself; included by Google Play Billing for purchases. |
| Run at start-up (Android) | Re-schedules your reminders after the phone restarts. |
7. Children
Taskinator is a general-purpose planner and is not directed at children under 13. It collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.
8. Your rights (POPIA, GDPR and similar laws)
Because your data never leaves your device, you exercise your rights by using the app: export a backup (portability), edit or delete tasks (correction and erasure), "Delete all data" in Settings, or uninstall (complete removal). We hold no copy of your information to access, correct or delete. See the data-deletion page.
If you believe your personal information has been mishandled you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa (inforegulator.org.za).
9. Security
Tasks are stored in the app's private storage, Android backup of app data is switched off, and Autopilot's learned state is encrypted. The task database itself is not separately encrypted; it is protected by your phone's own lock screen and storage protection.
10. Changes
If this policy changes, the new version ships inside the app (Settings, About and legal) and in the repository, with a new version date above.
